A full-time counselor offers the following counseling supports to our students and families:
Baku International School's counselor supports the personal, social, and emotional needs of students by:
Providing a safe, confidential, and judgment free space for students to bring their thoughts, concerns, and emotions.
Offering Individual support when a student comes forward themselves or is identified by teachers or parents as struggling academically, socially or emotionally.
Facilitating positive communication and mediating conflict between students as well as between students and teachers.
Baku International School's counselor works to provide family and community supports by:
Building a strong rapport and community between the parents and BIS.
Providing family support as they pertain to students' comfort and achievement at BIS.
Supporting students and families through the transitions of arriving and leaving our community by offering:
Groups with other students also transitioning
The school counselor works to support students needing academic supports. The counselor will:
Liaise with teachers and the QSI Learning Support Coordinators to assess, plan, and implement learning supports
Implement safety-netting and credit recovery programs for students needing additional time and support to achieve mastery
BIS helps prepare students for their post-secondary education by:
Supporting students in preparing for college or university
Coordinating visits from international and local universities
Providing students with exposure and guidance on different career opportunities
Following-up with graduates and other former students to help determine the effectiveness of the school’s educational program and student services.
